Saturday afternoon we left Quinn with my parents, packed up the car with a cooler full of drinks and two of our dear friends, and headed out on a mini road trip for a local Lantern Festival.
Along with a paper lantern to launch at sunset, we were each given a box full of s’more makings. I probably haven’t had a s’more since I was nine or ten and had completely forgotten how amazing they are. I am seriously hoping we can get our backyard landscaped by the end of the summer so I have an excuse to make a few over our fire pit 🙂
We camped out in our lawn chairs, roasted a few marshmallows, and had a drink or two while we waited for the sun to set. When darkness fell, everyone began to release their lanterns into the air and the sky lit up with literally thousands of floating lights. It was the most incredible sight. Total Disney movie moment.
The lanterns were made of rice paper with a little flammable patch in the center held together with string. Real high-tech contraptions. Fortunately, we all made it through the night without catching anyone’s hair on fire and we only burned a hole in one of our four lanterns. Win! By the end of the night, we all smelled like campfire smoke and getting back to the parking lot was an experience all its own, but the night was truly unforgettable in the best of ways.
Hope you all had a fun weekend! Happy Monday! XO
