Memorial Day Weekend

We spent our Memorial Day weekend at the lovely Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina. Someday I will tell Quinn about the craziness we had to go through to get there. Let’s just say it involved rescheduling flights, a three and a half hour drive that turned into a five and a half hour road trip, spending two hours at a dead stop on a Georgia highway and then finally getting to the hotel at 2:30am (when we originally planned to get there at 3:30pm). When I said oh, I can’t wait for new adventures in year two… this wasn’t exactly what I meant, but I’ll take it! Lucky for us, our baby is awesome and slept until 10am the next day.

Mornings were spent jumping on the bed and searching for belly buttons. In the afternoons we walked through nearby neighborhoods and dreamt about living in one of the old brick houses. Quinn wanted to walk everywhere! And of course she wanted to do it all by herself, which resulted in her first skinned knee ever (cue all the tears!). It made me sick but she didn’t seem to notice and just kept on cruising.

We sipped sweet tea and rocked in these adorable rocking chairs that were scattered throughout the hotel. We may need to buy a couple for the porch at the new house 🙂

We had to walk past these beautiful confections every day on the way back to our room from the lobby. I couldn’t resist the red velvet. Quinn didn’t seem to mind.

The grounds and mountain views were absolutely stunning. Quinn had so much fun touching all the plants and picking flowers. There were tears when we finally had to pull her away to go to dinner.More belly button hunting.

The trip home on Sunday went much more smoothly. We spent Monday barbecuing with family, enjoying the perfect weather and feeling oh so much gratitude to all of the selfless service men and women who make beautiful weekends like this possible. Land of the free because of the brave.

Looking forward to this weekend with my loves after week one of my first rotation! This is the beginning of the end of school for me 🙂 Happy Friday, friends!
