Oh my goodness, travel has never tasted so sweet! Maui is one of our favorite places on the planet. After not being able to visit for a year and a half, it was extra special to make some seaside memories with the kids again. Quinn missed her last day of school to make this trip happen, but I think she’d agree that it was worth it! Morning swims and the sounds of the sea are seriously the best! We had SO much fun and I’m super excited to share a bunch of pictures and a list of all of our favorite Maui spots with you!
Where we like to stay:
We almost always stay in the Wailea area. The beaches are so lovely, the waves are gentle, and there are so many shops and restaurants. We usually stay at The Grand Wailea or the Ho’olei’s (2-3 bedroom condos on Grand Wailea property). Over the years we have stayed at nearly every hotel along Wailea Beach including the Four Seasons, Fairmont Kea Lani, Wailea Beach Resort, and the Andaz. All uniquely beautiful! We’ve also stayed at the Ritz in Kapalua, but that side of the island is a little rainy/windy for me. The Ho’oleis are fabulous for large families. Everyone gets their own room. We are able to buy groceries and make meals at our place. And the views of the ocean are spectacular!
Where we like to play:
There are really only three things that we like to do when we go on a beach vacation- go to the beach, go to the pool, and go out to eat. And Maui is no different! Over the years, we have taken the kids to Haleakala and Twin Falls, which were both kid friendly and so fun! This time we were able to swim with the kids at Twin Falls and touch the second waterfall. My big kids were so brave and jumped right in. I, on the other hand, was totally freaked out not being able to see what was in the water 😆
Where we like to eat:
- Monkey Pod (great for dinner; there’s one in Wailea and another in Kaanapali; loud, live music, happy hour)
- Ka’ana Kitchen (dinner in Wailea)
- The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea (fancy date night dinner in Wailea)
- Lahaina Grill (fancy date night dinner on Front St in Lahaina)
- Sansei (sushi)
- Coconuts Fish Cafe (casual; great to-go; famous for their fish tacos)
- Ferraro’s (Italian at the Four Seasons in Wailea)
- Nick’s Fish Market (dinner at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Wailea)
- Longhi’s (love it for breakfast, but also good for dinner)
- Humble Market Kitchin (breakfast with a view in Wailea)
- Ululani’s (shave ice; more than one location)
- Gazebo (casual, but delicious breakfast in Kapalua; count on a line!)
We’ve also heard that Lineage in Wailea and Sale Pepe in Lahaina are good dinner spots, but we haven’t been yet! I also recently heard that Tamura’s Fine Wines & Liquors has the best Poke, so that is a must-try for me the next time we visit!
Most mornings, we have coffee on the lanai for an hour or so before making breakfast at home. Then we wrestle the kids with sunblock before walking down to the pool or the beach for a few hours. Around lunchtime, we head back to our place for showers all around and a nap for the little kids. Every other night we eat out for dinner. On the nights we eat in, we usually take a walk after dinner or go for an evening dip in the hot tub. It’s all magic!
If you’ve made it this far in the post, you’re probably craving a sandy cocktail and the smell of the sea right about now. Good thing summer is right around the corner!
