Ryne and I spent the weekend away at Martha’s Vineyard. We stayed at the Harbor View Hotel, right on the edge of the harbor in Edgartown, and absolutely fell in love with its small town summer charm. Every street on the island was drop. dead. gorgeous. The sidewalks were made of brick and lined with traditional homes painted white, with shutters on the windows and lush hydrangeas flanking the front door. American flags were hanging from every home (4th of July everywhere you look). There were string lights hung in the courtyards of old homes turned restaurants. We rented bikes, hiked, and shared all of the wine. It’s basically summer camp for adults, minus the s’mores.
We flew from Denver to Boston, and then Boston to Martha’s Vineyard on a 6-seater puddle jumper plane, which legitimately scared me, but the views were incredible (and thankfully the flight was short). We were delayed getting into Martha’s Vineyard, so we quickly dropped our bags in our room and ran to our dinner reservation. We ate amazing food and canoodled over cocktails in the dining room of a vintage home that reminded me of the Titanic. The next morning we walked to breakfast, stuffed our faces with waffles, and sipped on coffee before hopping in the car and taking a scenic drive around the island.
Summer on the island was pleasantly warm, but when the rain rolled in the air was chilly. It got me craving pumpkins on the porch, leaves on the ground, and Hocus Pocus on TV. August is only a few days away and, well, August might as well be Autumn. Taking time to get away just Ryne and I always leaves me feeling refreshed and gives me the energy to jump back into our crazy schedules. This time together is so important to both of us and we are so grateful we have the opportunity to get away as husband and wife.
Ryne and I loved this little town so much. We were shocked by how good the food was and didn’t have enough time to do everything we wanted to do. So here’s to hoping we make it back there. Maybe after baby #3 😉
