It was back to school week for Quinny and I am happy to report that the first few days went so well!! Her two BFF’s are in her class again this year and she is over the moon excited to spend five days a week with them. Ryne and I dropped Quinn off on her first day and immediately drove to the airport to catch our flight to California for my sister’s wedding. We were all feeling a little bit of the first day jitters, but in the end there were no tears (yay!). It was so hard not being able to pick her up from school and hear first hand all about her first day of first grade, but we had so much fun celebrating my sis and her new hubby.
It is bittersweet for us to see summer come to end. We have loved our lazy warm days and making every excuse possible to play outside, but some semblance of routine is good for us all. And even though I miss Quinn like crazy I am cherishing this quiet time with Conrad and Ivy. We actually tried to enroll Conrad in preschool at the very last minute, but the class was already full. Now that the school year has started, I’m super grateful he didn’t get in. These years at home raising babies before they head off to school every day of the week are very short and I want to soak up every moment with mine. God knows my heart.
Buying school supplies and packing Quinny’s backpack is so nostalgic for me. It brings back happy memories of all the hope and joy of a new school year (and of course reminds me that fall is just around the corner). Every year my hope for her is the same- that she grows friendships old and new, learns what is important in life, and has the courage to show up as herself.
