Happiest half-birthday to our sweet boy! How can it be that you’re already halfway through your first year of life? These last six months have absolutely flown by, and while I miss your tiny little newborn face, I am so excited for all the fun that is ahead! First words, walking, and intentional kisses are just around the corner (and so is consistent sleep!). I can’t wait for it all!
Age: 6 months
Stats: We will find out at his six-month appt next week, but he’s already comfortably wearing 9-12 month sizes and even a few 12- 18 month sizes. All the cute things I bought him for the fall may not fit. He’s been wearing his Halloween jammies all month.
New this month: George is starting to sit up with some light assistance and instantly rolls onto his tummy anytime we put him on his back. We are all being extra cautious to keep him from rolling off of beds and changing tables. He is laughing so much, which is the sweetest sound in the world. His favorite toys are his rattle monkey and this Manhattan Toy Company ball or this ball that’s similar and easy to hold.
Sleep: Sleep could be better. George really has not slept through the night since we went to Italy last month. He usually wakes between 2am and 4am and ends up snuggling me until sunrise. He has hit the phase where he is up with the sun. Thankfully, he doesn’t mind playing with Dad for a while in the mornings so Mama can get a little more sleep.
Naps: George is down to three naps a day, usually lasting from 45 minutes to two hours. I remember hitting this milestone with each of the other kids. The ability to answer some emails, take a shower, load the dishwasher, run a load of laundry, or slowly sip a cup of hot coffee is a glorious reprieve that makes me feel so human during this very special (but challenging!) season of raising small children.
At least once a day, he’ll still want me to hold him for his nap, which I don’t mind one bit. About 2/3rds of the time, he’ll nap in his Dockatot, which we lovingly call “The Boat”. These have become shockingly hard to find. There are lots of similar brands like this baby lounger or this one. I always wanted one of these Charlie Crane baby rockers. It would have made for the cutest napping baby pictures! I’ll have to pick one up for my when I become a grandma.
Eating: We are still exclusively breastfeeding. Giving babies food can be challenging when we travel, so we’re waiting until after our summer kick-off trip to Maui before starting him on any baby food.
