George’s first trip to Maui! I tend to think traveling with a kid or even kids is totally doable, but traveling with four kids on a 7+hr flight and a new baby was challenging. All of the kids did great. It was just a lot to manage the timeline, all of the bags, snacks, bathroom stops, etc. I listened to an audiobook almost the entire flight, which was game-changing! How did I not think of this earlier in my motherhood?!
We had so much fun playing in the pool, walking along the beach, and going to dinner every night! The weather was actually a little chilly this time. I had to wrap myself in several towels to keep warm when George and I snuggled up on in a pool chair during his naps.
These kids are growing up before my very eyes! I have so many pictures of them in this spot over the years dating back to when Quinny was our only child. I can’t quite find the words, but I’m just so dang grateful to watch these kids grow and I know we’re incredibly fortunate to make these memories here.
I have shared a few of our favorite Wailea restaurants here before, but it’s worth sharing a few of our favorites again that offer not only delicious food but also a wonderful ambiance that makes every meal on this island special. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly spot or a romantic setting, Wailea has something to offer everyone.
Wailea Breakfast Spots:
- Maui Ono Donuts– this is a small food cart in a parking lot in Kihei. I like to order these the night before and drive to pick them up while everyone is still sleeping
- Donut Dynamite– this is not technically in Wailea. The owner sold her brick-and-mortar in the last few years, but she still makes the donuts and sells them out of her home or someone else’s restaurant. Order a few days ahead! She sells out fast
- Whale Tale– basically a shack on the beach that sells smoothies, breakfast sandwiches, and a few sweet items like cinnamon bread and acai bowls. We walk down to the beach as a family, eat breakfast, and then head straight to the pool.
- Akamai Coffee– so much more than coffee. You can order a full-on breakfast here and sit on a shaded patio.
Wailea Lunch/Dinner Spots:
- Nick’s Fish Market– white tablecloths and food
- Monkeypod– live music, casual, great drinks!
- The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea– so swanky and delicious but EXPENSIVE!
- Duo– steak house inside the Four Seasons hotel
- Ferraro’s– Italian food, white tablecloths, and incredible views!
