Ryne and I got home from Dublin very late last night and we were so excited to see the progress on the house. Things are moving along, but (always) slower than we’d like. The house will definitely not be finished by the time we move in ten days from now. There will be no cabinets and no sinks. I keep telling myself it’s going to be a just like glamping. We will have shelter and beds, but we’ll be brushing our teeth with a hose. The kitchen, back kitchen, and master bathroom cabinets arrive one week after we move in, so we won’t have to wait terribly long. The remainder of the cabinets will come in stages. We will be eating out every day that week. There are worse things.
Projected move-in date: Still planning on July 11th. Really questioning if we can make it happen and how much renovation we are willing to live through. Moving in with my parents for a couple of weeks is looking more and more tempting.
Progress this month(ish): Windows were installed and it made a world of difference! The house is so light and bright. I can imagine sipping my coffee in the dining nook while the kids jump on the trampoline. Interior doors were installed along with tile in three of five bathrooms, all of the hardwood floors, and about half of the trim (the other half is stuck on a boat in the ocean). The concrete was poured for our front and back porches. We ordered a fireplace mantle for the flex room- a marble beaut! I can’t wait to see it in person. The fireplace mantle for the family room is still TBD.
Up next: Paint! I cannot wait to see how it transforms the space. Lots of odds and ends remain like installing stair railings, electrical trim, toilets, shower trim, glass for the shower doors, more tile, and finishing up the remaining window and door trim. We need to order new garage door pads and openers, door stops, wallpaper, shower drains, speakers and an amp, pavers and cobble edging for the landscape, and probably two dozen more things I am not thinking of right now. Landscaping will continue. Praying we have any ounce of grass for the kids when we move in 10 days!
Major setback of the month: Two things. One- our internet line was severed while digging for the firepit. Trying to get government people out to replace the line and re-trench it has been a nightmare. Two- exterior doors were delayed until the end of July, which was so disappointing because we were really counting on them to move in. We bought some temporary doors that will allow us to secure the house. Not ideal, but some of these roadblocks are expected.
Currently eyeing:
General feelings about the project: Every time I walk through the space I feel so excited to live there, even if it’s not perfect. Our poor family has endured all the hardships of renovating, but we have not had the chance to enjoy the fruits of this labor. Moving in will finally allow us to experience the joy that makes all of the effort worth it! I am ready!
