We have owned our fixer-upper for almost five months now. We bought the home at the end of August with plans to completely gut the inside of the home. For the first three months, the project was basically at a standstill. There is so much planning that has to go into a renovation project before any tangible work can begin. Just after Thanksgiving things finally started moving. By Christmas, the house had been demoed and at this point in time, a large portion of the framing has been completed.
I plan to document the renovation progress both here and on Instagram. I thought it’d be fun to do a monthly update, much like I did for each of my pregnancies, complete with construction milestones, hurdles jumped, and various design elements we are eyeing that month. So here is the inaugural renovation update!
Projected move-in date: June 1st. This is VERY loose. Ryne and I *think* we can make it happen based on proposed lead times. The house might not be 100% complete, but we hope it’s livable by then.
Progress this month(ish): We finalized the floor plans, got the engineering report, got our construction permits, demoed, framed new walls and new windows.
Up next: HVAC, plumbing, and electrical
Currently eyeing:
General feelings about the project: Simultaneously completely overwhelmed and also so very excited. Managing a renovation project is busier than I ever could have imagined. Ryne and I are having to decide every little detail and coordinate the trades, which is overwhelming at times. But I am already so freaking excited to see our vision for this home come to life!
Ryne and I have dreamt about renovating one of these homes for the better part of a decade, so even though our custom home dreams crashed and burned this summer (it’s fine, I’m fine), this is also a dream come true.
