We bought a new house! And by “new house” I mean a piece of dirt, in a brand new community, with no plans to start building on our lot for at least a few more weeks.
Just before Christmas, Ryne and I decided to stroll a few model homes while dreaming about “some day” when we would be able to afford a house with lots of windows and room to grow into. Long story short, our casual dreaming turned into a downpayment on a vacant lot with plans for a finished product sometime in late October. So we sold our little two bedroom brownstone almost immediately and moved in with my parents.
Even though nothing is happening on our lot right now, we like to go monitor the progress on the neighborhood as a whole. It’s about a 25 minute drive from my parents’ house, so we’ve only gone a handful of times… today.
We were told that the end of our cul-de-sac could be excavated as early as this week! Which means we will likely be driving by every day just to make sure we don’t miss it. I joke that once the construction crew finally breaks ground on our house Ryne will be eating lunch with the construction workers on the daily. I’m only half kidding.

That is so exciting. I am sure you are thrilled. It looks like a beautiful place to start a family. I have been looking into building a house because we have always bought house that were at least 30 years old. It usually turns out ok but there is always something that bugs me about how the house was built.

Thank you, Jacqueline! We are thrilled! We never ended up living in the house built on this ^ property. We actually switched neighborhoods half-way through the building process ( you can read about it here: http://littlehammons.blogspot.com/2014/07/new-house-2.html). We moved into our new newbuild house last July. Building a house from the ground up definitely has its perks, but it's hard to beat the charm of an older home 🙂 And truth be told, unless you build custom, there will always be something you don't love about a home. I know that's true for us! Hope you find something you love!
