It’s bittersweet to share that what was once our plan to build a colonial in the country is now just a page in our story. We had been planning and designing our dream home for the last 7 months, but after many closed doors, red flags, and new dreams we have decided to pivot toward a new adventure.
So what is next for the Hammons family? We bought a house! It is a sweet little fixer-upper that we absolutely cannot wait to make our own! The house has good bones, it’s in a beautiful neighborhood, and if all of the stoplights are green- it’s 90 seconds from the kids’ school. The previous owners took really good care of the home, but everything in it is completely original. Original floors. Original light fixtures. Original bathrooms. Original kitchen. It’s going to be a big project, but we can see the potential!
Since we’re already settled in our rental house, we’ve decided to stay put and move in after the renovation is complete. Our plan is to pretty much take this place down to the studs. We will be adding some curb appeal, moving a few walls, upgrading the kitchen & all of the bathrooms, and smoothing out the drywall texture. We will also replace all of the windows and doors. The yard has some really big, beautiful trees that I am so grateful for! But aside from that handful of trees, we’ll also be gutting the landscaping and giving it a sweet update.
Although this wasn’t our original plan when we sold our house in April, we are over the moon excited to watch the transformation of this house. Ryne and I have looked at homes in this neighborhood over a dozen times in the last decade with the hopes of finding the perfect fixer to renovate. I don’t think we would have left our last home to do it, but now that we are here we’re excited about it! We know this path was God’s plan for us (no matter how convoluted) and we’re grateful every day for that knowledge.
In my heart, I believe that one day we will resurrect this dream we have to build a colonial home. For now, thank you for following along with our renovation project 🤍
