I am so excited to FINALLY share the big news that we are moving!! Yes, moving! As of today, we are officially under contract on our current home!!
Oh my goodness, where to even begin?! The last six weeks have been absolute madness. As if we didn’t have enough going on with three kids, two jobs, and finishing our basement, we officially went under contract on a lot 20 minutes south of us the day our basement started framing. Absolute. Madness. Coupled with so much excitement I could burst!
Ryne and I have dreamt for years about custom building a traditional American colonial home (think- Father of the Bride, Home Alone, The Notebook). Something that is very hard to come by in Colorado. We have casually browsed Zillow pretty much every night for the last two years hoping to find- A) a colonial gut job or B) a vacant piece of land we could build on within 20 minutes of the kids’ school (which we absolutely love and are never leaving). In December, we stumbled upon and made an offer on a vacant lot 15 minutes north of us. It wasn’t for sale and, unfortunately, the owner declined. Back to the drawing board. After Christmas, we had basically put our dream on the shelf and decided to finish our basement. If we were going to stay in our house, we wanted a little extra space for the kids to play, a nicer guest bedroom for visitors, as well as a home gym. So we signed the contract with the basement company.
The weekend before the basement crew was set to start, we decided to go look at a small, gated neighborhood with large lots and amazing mountain views. Fast forward to the Tuesday morning our basement started, we decided to make an offer on one of the lots. Our offer was accepted before we even sat down with the basement project manager. We were officially under contract on lot #15 and the race was on to prep our home for sale!
It’s been such a rollercoaster and we’ve already learned so much we didn’t initially know about the whole custom building process. Between the two of us, Ryne is definitely the braver, throw-caution-to-the-wind-type. I am more the methodical, logical, cautious-type. We help each other grow and he is definitely pushing me out of my comfort zone with all of this. But he’s also reminded me that life really is short in the big scheme of things (something we were reminded of when my mom almost died last fall) and this is a dream we want to live while our kids are young! So we are going for it!! We have a rental lined up for move-in at the end of the month and I just can’t believe this is all actually happening!
… a little sneak peek at what we hope to build. Can’t wait to share more so soon!
Lots of nerves, lots of excitement, LOTS of champagne 😉
