Life with three young children doesn’t lend itself to extra anything, let alone time to keep resolutions. And despite my best efforts to “get organized”, I am constantly chasing messes while carrying a weeping child on my hip. Even the day after I diligently clean out our car, it always ends up in absolute disarray 12 hours later. Like an entire bag of cheez-its dumped onto the floor, random (dirty) socks, fifteen returns shoved into the trunk, today’s cold coffee, yesterday’s coffee, a half-empty water bottle (x3) that is leaking under my seat, one shoe, an exploding diaper bag (sans diapers or wipes), and nine million masks all over the place. Always!
Spare time and spare energy are hard to come by in this phase of life. But, for the first time in years, I feel like I have five free minutes all to myself (Kidding. It’s more like three). All of our babies are becoming more independent in their own ways and I’m sensing the winds of change sweeping through our home. I still have no intention of Marie Kondoing my house 😉 but there is something about a new year that brings a renewed sense of optimism (this year more than ever!), fresh perspective, and a little energy to make positive changes for a better year ahead. Although they are not resolutions, there are a few things that I hope 2021 has in store for us:
- A few beach trips, starting with a trip to 30A! Last week, Ryne and I booked this Airbnb over the kids’ spring break and we are SO excited!!
- Regular date nights. And crossing my fingers for two big fat trips just Ryne and I.
- More reading. I plan to dive right back into one of my fav’s- The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
- A fresh-cut flower garden. My sis and I share a love of gardening (something we inherited from our dad). For Christmas, she gifted me a variety of flower seeds from this family-run flower farm based out of Washington’s Skagit Valley and I absolutely cannot wait to watch them grow!
- Homemade pizzas and family movie nights.
- Lots of memory-making and more saying yes to my babies’ silly requests.
- A few house projects. Our basement project starts framing next week and we are too excited for words to see it come together!
- And maaaybe even a new home. I feel kind of sly just slipping this in right here, but Ryne and I have been on the hunt for something more traditional like this for years. Lord willing, this could be the year we make that dream come true.
- Less worrying, more praying, and more gratitude for the beauties of every day that really are the spice of life.
Happy 2021, friends! Wishing you all a wonderful year full of adventure ahead.
