INGREDIENTS:
– french bread (a day or two old is ideal)
– 2 tablespoons of butter
– 4 eggs
– 2/3 cup of evaporated milk
– 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
– 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
– 1 teaspoon of vanilla
– 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar
– pinch of salt
– powdered sugar for garnish and yum
DIRECTIONS:
Begin by slicing french bread into 1 inch thick slices. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, evaporated milk, and a splash of vanilla. Sprinkle cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar and salt into egg mixture, whisk, and set aside. On warmed griddle, heat 2 tablespoons of butter until melted. Soak each piece of bread in mixture evenly until soggy and place on hot griddle. Repeat with as many slices as will fit onto the griddle at one time. Cook each side until golden brown. Top with fruit, syrup and a heavy-handed sprinkle of powdered sugar! Best served with extra crispy bacon and a hot cup of coffee!
